June 19 is Freedom Day also known as Juneteenth. Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. This holiday is considered the longest-running African-American holiday and has been called America's second Independence Day. It was on June 19, 1865, that Union soldiers, led by Union General Gordon Arrived in Galveston, Texas to inform the enslaved African Americans of their freedom. In 2021, Juneteenth officially became a federal holiday.

Summer construction is in full swing! The ECC's flooring removal is complete, the middle school floor removal is almost done too and painting is well underway in both buildings!
