Special School District

District Overview

Hailed as “one of the great success stories in public education in the St. Louis region” by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, SSD has become an icon for special education and technical education providers over the past half century.

Founded in 1957, SSD’s unique status as a public school district ensures that all local students receive equal access to quality special education regardless of their socio-economic background or the neighborhood in which they live.

SSD staff provides special education services to students in 265 public schools in 22 school districts in St. Louis County.

About 97 percent of the students who receive special education services from SSD attend a school in their local school district.

SSD Social Worker

ABOUT:

Hi my name is Ms. Dana Evans! Welcome! I am the Special School District social worker for grades K-12. I have a Master’s degree in Social Work and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Missouri.

I work with students who have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and their families to provide counseling and community resources. I also collaborate with staff and administrators to advocate for students and create plans in support of their academic and social-emotional well-being. I love uncovering my students’ strengths and helping them to overcome obstacles.

When I’m not at work, you can find me spending time with my two young boys and my husband. We love to dance, go on adventures throughout our great city and have impromptu weeknight pizza and movie parties.
