Sunshine Law Requests
Missouri's Sunshine Law promotes transparency in government by setting forth expectations for public access to meetings and records of public governmental bodies. Section 610.011 of the Sunshine Law states: “It is the public policy of this state that meetings, records, votes, actions, and deliberations of public governmental bodies be open to the public unless otherwise provided by law. Sections 610.010 to 610.200 shall be liberally construed and their exceptions strictly construed to promote this public policy.” Additional information about the Missouri Sunshine Law may be found through the Missouri Attorney General’s Office.
Note: Section 610.026.1(1), RSMo, allows a public governmental body to charge up to 10 cents per page for standard paper copies, the average hourly rate of pay for clerical staff to duplicate documents, and the actual cost of the research time for fulfilling the request.
